The 7 movies with the most nominations participated in many prestigious film festivals, such as Venice Film Festival, Cannes Film Festival, Mar del Plata and San Sebastian, which shows the great status of Iberoamerican Cinema.
The Premios PLATINO of Iberoamerican Cinema have, after only four years, has become the most important global event for the Iberoamerican film industry by serving as its key international platform.
The Awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 22nd at La Caja Magica in Madrid and will be broadcast by TNT in LatinAmerica, and by many major national TV channels around the globe.
The winner of each category will be chosen by an international jury consisting of over 700 creatives who have participated in the previous Premios Platinos.The Awards ceremony is produced thanks to the support to the Ayuntamiento de Madrid.

The movies with the most nominations are: Un monstruo viene a verme, by Juan Antonio Bayona with 7 nominations, and Neruda by Pablo Larrain with 5 nominations. The nominees for Best Screenplay are Alberto Rodríguez and Rafael Cobos for El hombre de las mil caras, Alejandro Brugues, Pierre Edelman and Pavel Giroud for El acompañante, Andrés Duprat for El Ciudadano Ilustre, Celso García for La delgada línea amarilla and Guillermo Calderón for Neruda.
The nominees for Best Actress are Angie Cepeda for La semilla del silencio, Emma Suárez for Julieta, Juana Acosta for Anna, Natalia Oreiro for Gilda, no me arrepiento de este amor and the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Platino Award Honoree, Sonia Braga, for Aquarius.

The Educational Values in Films Award category which is bestowed in collaboration with the Foundation for Aid against Drug Addiction, FAD has the following nominees: El Acompañante, by Pavel Giroud (Cuba, Colombia, Panama, Venezuela), Esteban, by Jonal Cosculluela (Cuba, Spain), El Jeremías, by Anwar Safa (Mexico), Rara, by Pepa San Martín (Chile, Argentina) and Un monstruo viene a verme, by Juan Antonio Bayona (Spain).
This year 2017, the Premios Platino have a new category: Best Iberoamerican Mini-Series or TV Show and the nominees are Bala Loca, by Gabriel Díaz, Oscar Godoy (Chile); Cuatro Estaciones en La Habana, by Félix Viscarret (Cuba, Spain); El Marginal, by Luis Ortega, Mariano Ardanaz, Javier Pérez, Alejandro Ciancio (Argentina); El Ministerio del Tiempo, by Marc Vigil, Abigail Schaaff, Jorge Dorado, Paco Plaza, Javier Ruiz Caldera (Spain); La Niña, by Rodrigo Triana, Camilo Vega (Colombia) and Velvet, by David Pinillos and Manuel Gómez Pereira (Spain).
During the 31st of May press conference, AFI FEST presented by Audi, the international film festival of the American Film Institute received a Premio Platino for their contribution to Iberoamerican Cinema. Jacqueline Lyanga, Director of AFI FEST was honored to receive this prestigious Award.
“AFI FEST is honored to be receiving a Premio Platino award from EGEDA this year recognizing our continued support of IberoAmerican cinema”, said Jacqueline Lyanga, Director, AFI FEST. "Over the past thirty years, AFI FEST has presented numerous Iberoamerican films in Los Angeles and during this time we have seen incredible growth in this cinema's influence and audience in the United States."
AFI FEST presented by Audi is the American Film Institute's annual celebration of international cinema from modern masters, auteurs and emerging filmmakers. It takes place each fall in Los Angeles, CA, as awards season begins in the heart of Hollywood and features nightly red-carpet galas, special screenings, conversations and tributes. AFI FEST remains the first and only festival of its stature that is free to the public, offering the best of current cinema in Hollywood. It is Los Angeles' longest-running international film festival and a showcase for the best films of the year, among them many movies from Iberoamerica.
EGEDA US has been a community supporter and collaborator of AFI FEST for many years and acknowledges the great platform that AFI FEST is for many Iberoamerican filmmakers.
Juan Carlos Arciniegas, Ambassador of Premios Platino, Elvi Cano and Raul Vazquez both from Premios Platino and Gonzalo Elvira (FIPCA), underlined the importance of the Platinos as the highest profile event for cinema in Spanish and Portuguese languages, having generated a lot of media and public attention worldwide during their past award galas. Further testimony to the importance of the Platinos was the presence of prolific and well known figures in the audio-visual and cinematic arts in Iberoamerica during the nomination event such as Mimi Lazo, Patricia de Leon, Javier Fuentes Leon, Celines Toribio, Luis Fernandez, Alec Whaite, Patricia Maya, Reynaldo Pacheco, Emilio Kauderer, Lorena Bernal, Carla Ortiz and Jazz Vila.
The previous Awards ceremonies in Panama, Marbella and Punta del Este, welcomed Iberoamerican stars such as Antonio Banderas, Sonia Braga, Eugenio Derbez, Leandra Leal, Ricardo Darín, Angie Cepeda, Guillermo Francella, Dolores Fonzi, Edward James Olmos, Rita Moreno, Javier Cámara, Adriana Barraza and Joaquim de Almeida. The last was broadcasted by 17 TV channels in 5 continents.
Premios Platino of Iberoamerican Cinema is organized by EGEDA (Spain´s producers rights collection society), with FIPCA (the Ibero-American Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers) and with the support of The Academies of Motion Picture of Iberoamerica and the Institutes of Iberoamerican cinema, Latin Artist and Fundación AISGE. Since 2014 they are working together to create an international platform that will make Iberoamerican cinema get the results in the box office that it deserves.
