Photo L.A. return their exhibitors at the historic Barker Hangar, Santa Monica from January 31st - February 3rd, 2019. It's a curated selection of 60+ local and international galleries, dealers, collectives, leading not-for-profits, art schools, and global booksellers will offer an extensive selection of photographic works. From the Classic Masters to the Contemporary Greats, all will gather and be showcased during the 27th edition of Photo L.A.:

PHOTO L.A. will honor artist and photographer Jo Ann Callis for the 27th edition of the Photo L.A. fair. A central figure in the Southern California photography scene since the 1970s, Callis is known for her provocatively staged scenarios with a poetic dimension. In her work, the inner world of the artist finds material expression through creative juxtapositions, bold colors and playful constructions.

 Also featured at PHOTO L.A. will be Making It Up: Photographs from the Michael and Jane Wilson Trust Collection. Drawn from the holding of photographs by women in the collection of Michael and Jane Wilson, this selection illustrates an impetus of exploration, collaboration and performance among contemporary women photographers. It includes work by Nancy Burson, Jo Ann Callis, Nancy Honey, Graciela Iturbide, Barbara Kasten, Nikki S. Lee, Mary Ellen Mark, Alex Prager, Susan Rankaitis, Marcia Resnick, Cindy Sherman, Taryn Simon, and Catherine Wagner.

The Michael and Jane Wilson Trust Collection

                                                         Programming highlights for the 2019 edition of PHOTO L.A. will include:

• Michael Fried, modernist art critic and art historian in Conversation with Thomas Demand;
• Britt Salvesen, Curator, Wallis Annenberg Photography Department, Print and Drawing Department, on panel titled Between Totalization and Difference: Opticality and Optical Technology in Art Today in dialogue with Matthew Lax Victoria Fu and Carter Mull; 
• Underfire: The Untold Story of Pfc Tony Vaccaro (HBO Documentary) Film Screening and Conversation with Tony Vaccaro. 
• Tony Vaccaro fought with the 83rd Infantry Division for the 272 days of World War II, playing two roles – a combat infantryman on the front lines and a photographer who would take roughly 8,000 photographs of the war. Following the screening, Vaccaro will be available for questions from the audience.
