A record breaking 760 movies qualified for
this year’s awards. From those, 30 movies
have been
finalists, selected from 13 of the 23 countries
of Iberoamerica.
During the press conference a special Platino Award was bestowed by
Eugenio
Eugenio
Derbez on behalf of the Executive Committee of Premios Platino to The
American Cinematheque for its contribution to Iberoamerican Cinema.
The Award was received by Rick Nicita, Chairman of the American
Cinematheque.
In attendance at the press event were also Colombian actor Marlon
Moreno and Salvadorian actress Carla Vila.

In an effort to celebrate talent and creativity, TNT has joined EGEDA
in a strategic
alliance to recognize the best of Latin American Film through the second annual Premios
Platino of
Iberoamerican Cinema.

The Premios Platino of Iberoamerican Cinema identifies
the best Latin American film
productions
(including Spain and Portugal)
in nine creative categories and four technical awards
including Best Latin American Fiction Film, Best Documentary, Best Animation Film,
Best
Latin American
Opera Prima Fiction, Best Direction, Best Performance by
an Actor, Best Performance
by an Actress,
Best Script, Best Original
Score, Best Editing, Best Art Direction, Best Sound and Best
Cinematography,
plus a Lifetime Achievement Award.
This year the ceremony hosts will be Mexican actress & singer Alessandra Rosaldo
and CNN en Español’s Juan Carlos Arciniegas.
Journalist and Mexican TV host Rafa Sarmiento will be in charge of the
commentaries during the event.
Audiences will be able to enjoy an exclusive 30 minute pre-show from the Red Carpet,
broadcast on both TNT and CNN en Español. The pre-show will be hosted by Argentinian
filmmaker, journalist and producer Axel Kuschevatzky and Dominican host of CNN en
Español, Mariela Encarnación

The Premios Platino of Iberoamerican Cinema and the pre-show will air live for Latin
America on
Saturday July 18th at 4.30PM (ARG / CH) / 2.30PM (MEX / COL / PAN) / 3PM (VEN).
The ceremony and pre-show will have a repeat showing the same day at
