Hollywood Forever’s 20th annual Dia de los Muertos celebration will take place on Saturday November 2nd, 2019.
This year theme is the Monarch Butterfly and its winter home the Mexican state of Michoacán. which is also one of the two cultural heartlands in Mexico where the ancient traditions of Dia de los Muertos have been celebrated the longest. Café Tacvba will be the headliner rock band at the main stage 9.30pm, November 2nd at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. They are recognized as the leading alternative rock band in Mexico and one of the most influential alternative groups from Latin America.
The Delirians will perform 5.30pm at main stage, Nov.2nd
The historical roots of this celebration go back to the pre-Hispanic cultures of Meso-America of the indigenous people, especially the Nahua, and others native to Mexico more than 3000 years. Indigenous people believed that the souls did not die, that they continued to live in Mictlan (Place of death) a special place for them to finally rest. On the Day of the Dead, tradition holds that the dead return to earth to visit their living relatives. It is also believed that even if these relatives can’t see them, they can feel them.
It’s a way to come to terms with our mortality and become aware of the cycle of life and death.
